Trenton Psychiatric Hospital
Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, the first of New Jersey’s public mental hospitals, is a state run facility situated in Trenton. It has been providing services for mentally ill persons from Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Union counties since 1848. The hospital was founded by Dorothea Lynde Dix, the renowned pioneer and advocate for humane care and treatment of the mentally ill. Trenton Psychiatric Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
