Nassau University Medical Center
Nassau County Medical Center, a member of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, is a tertiary care teaching hospital in New York. It has been providing medical education, health services and caring to the people of Long Island for more than 65 years. The hospital is regarded as the largest safety net hospital in the nation.
The medical center, based in East Meadow, New York, consists of more than 25 buildings, constructed between 1931 and1974. The key facilities include a health sciences library, an auditorium, a staff dining room, 12 operating room suites, an interfaith chapel, laboratory and research facilities, a helicopter landing pad, a 140-seat teaching amphitheater and satellite teleconference capability. In addition to these, several county agencies, including the department of drug and alcohol, the departments of mental health and the medical examiner's office occupy space in the complex.
The services provided at the medical center include ambulatory care, medicine, anesthesiology, oral surgery, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, pathology, rehabilitation and surgery.
Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility, a 72-acre campus in Uniondale, is the geriatric facility owned by the medical center. It comprises eight buildings and provides accommodation up to 889 residents. In addition, the Nassau county fire Marshall's office, and the Nassau county Arson Squad are located there.
Nassau County Medical Center (NCMC), the first New York State Department of Health designated AIDS center in Long Island, is a leading service wing of the medical center. It is dedicated to providing a full range of services to HIV infected patients and their families, and education and training to Long Island health care professionals.
Nassau County Medical Center runs community health centers in Elmont, Freeport, Hempstead, Lawrence, Westbury, Long Beach and Roosevelt.
