Elmhurst Hospital Center
Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC), America's second public hospital, serves the residents of New York City. It has been in service since 1832. It was the first hospital to control puerperal fever and first to use hydrotherapy. The hospital boasts the first children's health center in the nation, built in 1918.
Elmhurst is a regional referral center for trauma services, cardiac catheterization, renal dialysis, neurosurgery, obstetric and gynecological care, rehabilitative medicine and innovative medical services. As a renowned facility for mental health services, the hospital installs child and adolescent mental health programs, and a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP).
Elmhurst Hospital Center runs 16 family health service clinics throughout the Queens County. It is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
