Maimonides Medical Center
Maimonides Medical Center is a non-sectarian, academic medical center in Brooklyn, New York. It has been providing high quality patient care and community services for more than a century. Maimonides has recognized as one of the “Nation’s 100 Most Wired” hospitals and one of the “Nation’s 25 Most Wireless” hospitals by the Hospitals and Health Networks - a journal of the American Hospital Association (AHA). Maimonides is the only hospital in New York State to achieve these dual honors and one of the 18 hospitals in the U.S.
Maimonides Medical Center is the site where the first human heart transplantation in the U.S. was held. The hospital also developed the first commercial pacemaker, intra-aortic balloon pump and the needle aspiration for biopsies.
The hospital is acclimated as a leading academic medical center, which houses a staff of internationally renowned physicians and more than 70 primary care and sub-specialty programs. A complete choice of medical and surgical services, including dental care, endocrinology and metabolism, neurology, eye care, rehabilitation medicine, ambulatory care, infectious diseases, anesthesiology, heart care and critical care are provided.
As a leading academic medical center, Maimonides trains more than 400 residents and medical students each year. The medical center is affiliated with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and serves as the Brooklyn center for the school. Graduate and under graduate medical programs are offered there.
