Carthage Area Hospital

Carthage Area Hospital is a general acute care hospital serving the residents in eastern Jefferson, northern Lewis and southern St. Lawrence counties. It is the only hospital in the tri-county region that is licensed by the New York State Department of Health Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP).

The hospital was started as a rural community hospital in 1965. Since its inception, the hospital has been a community leader in emergency, acute and wellness healthcare services. This facility comprises a 30 bed skilled nursing unit and a 10 bed acute rehabilitation unit. Services provided include rehabilitation, nutrition, urological services, cardiology services, anesthesiology care and women’s health services. The centers of excellence are Harrisville family health center, Evans mills family health center, Cape Vincent family health center, satellite physical therapy clinic, dental clinic and veteran’s administration clinic.

Carthage Area Hospital’s rehabilitation services received a three year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Carthage Area Hospital accepts both Medicare and Medicaid patients.
