Terrence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center
Terrence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center (TCCHCC) is the first long-term care facility in New York State specially dedicated to AIDS care for men and women. Affiliated with the Catholic Health Care System, it is a leading healthcare facility with a multiple choice of special care units and two large outpatient clinics.
Its medical treatment was begun in 1890 with its predecessor institution, Flower Free Surgical Hospital in associated with the New York Medical College. In 1938, Flower Hospital and New York Medical College merged with the Fifth Avenue Hospital at TCCHCC’s present location. The new facility was renamed as Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in 1984.
TCCHCC provides quality care to aged patients with chronic illnesses, disabled children, and people with Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s disease, and kidney failure. Treatments for physically frail individuals with a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, respiratory and cardiac disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy, and dementia are also offered.
Specialty Hospital, located in TCCHCC, is a 50-bed specialty hospital for infants, children, and young adults with developmental disabilities and demanding medical conditions.
Terrence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center accepts both Medicare and Medicaid patients.
