Helen Hayes Hospital, a leader in rehabilitation medicine and research, is one of the first physical rehabilitation facilities in the nation. It has been serving the individuals with catastrophic injuries and chronic disabling illnesses for more than a century.

The hospital provides an array of specialty services to the patients with stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, and neurological and cardiopulmonary disorders. Inpatient cardiopulmonary, joint replacement, osteoporosis and orthopedic, and dental and oral surgery are the key services provided.

The hospital promotes research works for identifying new routes to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injury and illness. The Center for Neural Recovery and Rehabilitation Research (CNRRR) is specially designed to find out the causes underlying neurological and psychiatric diseases, and reasons for cell death after stroke or trauma. The Regional Bone Center (RBC) is also a research facility in the hospital which is committed to determine the reasons of metabolic bone disease, and to develop new treatments for bone disease.

Helen Hayes Hospital is operated by the New York State Department of Health and affiliated with the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
