Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a tertiary care serving the community of Norfolk. Apart from medical and surgery services, the hospital provides neurovascular, cardiology and rehabilitation services.

It is Virginia’s only hospital that is ranked among the top 100 cardiovascular hospitals in the United States, and is the home to area's only level I trauma center and burn trauma unit.

An education department is headed by the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and it organizes teaching rounds and academic discussions on psychopharmacology, medical aspects of psychiatric patients, current literature, psychodynamic issues and other pertinent topics.
