Piedmont Geriatric Hospital

Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (PGH), a part of the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services, is the Virginia's only medical facility exclusively for elder persons (65 + years of age). It aims to help the individuals with psychiatric and physical impairments. Music therapy is practiced there as part of psychosocial and rehabilitation treatments.

PGH is a major training site for universities, colleges and vocational schools in Geropsychiatric and other clinical specialties.

The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).

Piedmont Geriatric Hospital accepts both Medicare and Medicaid patients.
