University of Washington Medical Center is a nationally recognized teaching hospital for the UW School of Medicine offering world-class specialty and primary care. Commonly known as UW Medical Center, this hospital is a licensed, comprehensive medical care facility with about 400 attending physicians. Started in 1959, UW medical Center is one of two major teaching hospitals for the University of Washington School of Medicine. This hospital also has in its credits of being the World's first long-term kidney dialysis, World's first multidisciplinary pain center, Nation's first Clinical Research Center and Northwest's first heart transplant and total knee transplant. The primary care clinics of UW Medical Center are Family Medical Center, General Internal Medicine Center, Pediatric Care Center and Women's Health Care Center.
