Southwest Washington Medical Center (SWMC) is a not-for-profit comprehensive medical center located in Vancouver, in southwest Washington State. With over 3,000 highly skilled professional staffs including a total active medical staff of nearly 600 physicians, the hospital offers quality health care services to the rural citizens of Clark County. <P> Established in June of 1858 as the first permanent hospital in the Northwest Territories, SWMC is now the largest private employer in county. It was originally called as St. Joseph Hospital and with the merging of St. Joseph and Vancouver Memorial Hospitals in 1977 forming Southwest Washington Hospitals. <P> SWMC is a tobacco-free facility accepting nearly all insurance plans. Gift Shop, library and pharmacy are other facilities in SWMC. The hospital also arranges community health programs, wellness activities, family birth center programs, cancer center programs, professional conferences, staff education and continuing medical education.
