Hospital of St Raphael is an academic health science center, affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine, renowned for patient care and medical education. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth in 1907, it has grown from a 12-room hospital into the Saint Raphael Healthcare System — a nationally-respected, integrated delivery system that provides an extensive array of services catering to the healthcare needs and overall well-being of Greater New Haven residents. <P> It specializes in cardiovascular care, intensive care, stroke care, orthopedic services, cardiac bypass surgery, ear, nose and throat care, hormonal disorders, neurology and neurosurgery, adult services and respiratory disorders. <P> Hospital of St Raphael is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. AARP ranks the Hospital of Saint Raphael as one of the country's top 50 hospitals.
