Hilo Medical Center

Established in 1897, Hilo Medical Center is the largest facility in the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. Started as a small medical unit with 10-beds, HMC has grown over the years to its present facility with 275 licensed beds, which consists of 141-acute licensed beds, a separate 134-bed licensed extended care facility and an accredited home care agency. HMC is the largest employer in Hilo, with over 875 employees.

The new hospital complex was set in 1984 on 20.5 acres of land adjacent to the picturesque Wailuku River. The campus also holds the St Francis Dialysis Center, the Hawaii Radiologic Associates Women's Imaging Center, the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Community Based Outpatient Clinic and the medical center's Hawaii Pacific Oncology Center.

Hilo Medical Center accepts both Medicare and Medicaid patients.
