Memorial Medical Center
Memorial Medical Center is a not-for-profit general medical and surgical type hospital located in Springfield, Illinois. Started in 1897 as the Springfield Hospital and Training School, the name of the hospital was changed to Memorial Hospital of Springfield in 1947. During the fourth quarter of the 20th century, in 1974, the hospital was renamed Memorial Medical Center.
The medical center continues to provide teaching facilities for area colleges and universities since 1975. MMC is accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) and by Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This teaching hospital is affiliated with Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Memorial has 562 licensed beds, over 550 physicians on staff and more than 3,500 employees offering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. The MMC houses a state-of-the-art cardiac surgery facility, a Regional Cancer Center, sixteen surgery suites, a general medical patient unit and ambulatory nephrology center.
MMC’s center of excellence are in behavioral health group, regional burn center, neuromuscular sciences center, emergency center, family maternity suites, heart center, orthopaedic institute, regional cancer center and regional kidney center. Other specialized services include general intensive care, cardiac intensive care, neurology department, physical rehabilitation, obstetrics, orthopedics department and trauma center. Men's escort network, wheelchair assistance, parking, gift shop, pastoral care, cafeteria are the added amenities of the hospital.
Memorial Medical Center accepts both Medicare and Medicaid patients.
