Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center
Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center is the pioneer health care provider in the southeast Kansas. The center was stared by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita in 1903 as Mt. Carmel Hospital to serve the needs of area coal miners and their families.
Through the years of remodeling and expansion, the center has now grown into a full-fledged hospital fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and holds memberships in the American Hospital Association, the Kansas Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association.
The present five-floor, 188-bed hospital at Centennial and Rouse Streets opened its doors for service in 1971. The current facilities at the center include a new surgery center, emergency department and state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab. Major specialties provided at the center are family practice, pediatrics, emergency medicine, oral maxillofacial surgery, pathology, pain management, psychiatry, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, podiatry, ENT, nuclear medicine, orthopedic surgery, pulmonology, general surgery, oncology, orthopedics, urology and sleep medicine.
