University of Michigan Medical School
University of Michigan Medical School is the first medical school in the United States to have its own hospital. It holds the reputation as one among the first major medical schools in the US providing admission to women and the first one to adopt science as its basic instruction media. Today, it is counted among the top ten medical schools in the nation.
The medical school was opened in 1850. With faculty strength of more than 2,000, the school has a complete curriculum for its degree courses in Medical Science, research programs, clinical courses and training programs. Its infrastructure is basically divided in to three units - basic science departments and units, clinical departments, and interdisciplinary departments, programs, centers and institutes. Research in a broad range of basic science and clinical science areas, including neuroscience investigation, cancer, bioengineering, geriatric medicine and molecular genetics are provided.
