Fulton State Hospital
Fulton State Hospital is the oldest public mental health facility in Missouri. It has been in service since 1851. It is accredited by the Joint Commission on Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The hospital specializes in delivering special care for mentally retarded persons. Key services provided are evaluation of individuals accused of a criminal offense as ordered by the circuit court of jurisdiction, competency restoration services for individuals deemed incompetent to proceed to trial and individuals who have been adjudicated as not guilty by reason of mental illness or mental defect who are in need of high levels of security. Treatment is based on the state-of-the-art medication practices and psychosocial rehabilitation technologies. Services available include psychosocial rehabilitation, social-learning program, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. There are several treatment units that provide psychosocial rehabilitation for clients through specialized programs which include hearnes psychiatric center, forensic services, biggs forensic center and guhleman forensic center.
